Mr. Pruett is beyond ecstatic to be the faculty sponsor of this fine student publication. However, despite his utter thrill, he has declined to comment on the topic of, well, himself, so there really isn’t anything we know about him that we can put in this bio. We’re sorry you took the time to read this, and, Pruett, if you’re reading this, tell us a fun fact we can put in this now blank space. Please. He also has four monitors.
When she is not overthinking or stressing about school, Nikki spends her time practicing dance or playing tennis on the brand new courts at Freeman! She also spends an unhealthy amount of time binge-watching The Office, going to Starbucks, and cooking new recipes. At school, she is a writing center tutor, avid Model UN-er, and Girl Scout. If you don’t find Nikki doing any of these things, she’s probably travelling with her family (so far, she’s been to 19 countries)! Nikki is extremely excited to be working at The Commentator as an Editor-in-Chief this year and can’t wait to contribute to the school community!
If Maryam isn’t at Chipotle for the millionth time this week, you can catch her trying to stay on top of her mountain of schoolwork (even though she’s usually procrastinating). In her free time between school and track, she loves to hang out with her friends, shop, and rot in her bed and watch The O.C. or Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. You can also find Maryam cooking meals for her family or reading any book she can get her hands on. She is really looking forward to being an Editor-in-Chief for The Commentator this year!
When Vrusha is not found racing on Freeman’s track, she can be found on her bed binge-watching her favorite shows or out blasting music on car rides with her best friends. She enjoys a variety of artists that range from The Weeknd to SZA and hopes to go to one of their concerts one day. In the little bit of free time she gets away from her school work, Vrusha loves to hike with her family and spend time reconnecting with nature. If asked to describe herself, Vrusha is most likely to say that she is competitive as well as supportive, both traits that she exhibits at her track meets. Vrusha is more than excited to be Online Editor-in-Chief and Centerspread Editor for The Commentator this year!
If Nina isn’t tanning outside in the sun, she is probably out with her friends, driving all around town. If that is not the case, you might find her spending too much money at Target or attempting to bake something new. If you still can’t find her there, she must be playing volleyball, running around the neighborhood, or sleeping comfortably in her bed. Nina’s absolute dream is to study abroad as soon as she gets the opportunity, and from there she wants to travel the world, meet new people, try new foods, and experience new things. Nina can’t wait to connect with the juniors and settle into being an Online Editor-In-Chief for The Commentator this year!
There is not a single place in the world Saanvi could go without having the image and thought of her dog in the back of her head. When asked the typical first day question, “What is a fun fact about yourself?” Saanvi will 99% of the time say she has a dog named Milo and that she runs track. With that being said, when she isn't working on homework or studying for the multiple quizzes and tests she has every week, some of her favorite out-of-school activities include running, spending time with her dog, family, and friends. A few of her clubs and extracurriculars include Model-UN, working with Green-Teenz RVA, and Red-Cross! Saanvi is very excited to be Head of News for The Commentator this year!
If it comes down to grinding out schoolwork that is due at 11:59 P.M. that night, Emerson Post would much rather be playing basketball. He is motivated to become the version of himself he can be. When he’s not on the court, you can find him out on the golf course, playing video games with his friends, or in the weight room. In his free time, he likes to do carpentry work with his Dad, learn how to play the piano, and ride roller coasters at Busch Gardens. Emerson also loves to fish with his friends in the summertime! Emerson is eager to start his role as a Sports and Copy Editor for The Commentator this school year!

Ava likes to watch football with her family and while her all time favorite team is the Commanders, she cheers for the Steelers and the Chiefs as well. Wondering about Tylerson’s whereabouts? As a captain of the color guard, you'll usually find him performing during halftime at football games or allowing his entire weekends to be flooded with competitions or working. One of his passions outside of that is theatre, as he’s participated in the 2024 productions of Clue and Chicago as both cast & crew. With favorite artists like The Strokes, Lorde, Peach Pit, and Frank Ocean, he thinks his music taste is somewhat diverse. Tylerson has a good eye and is often equipped with a digital camera for almost every occasion he's a part of. In his free time, Tylerson loves going to Trader Joe’s as well as exploring the general metro-Richmond area, specifically the bridges going across the James River, such as Belle Isle. He's more than elated to be an Arts & Entertainment/Graphics Editor for The Commentator this year!
You can either find Maria hanging out with friends, cooking a new recipe, out shopping, or curled up in her bed watching a movie. She is all sorts of things, but not a bookworm. Maria would much rather enjoy eating Cava with a friend or playing with her dog Burdi, than being sat in front of a computer studying. Maria is sad to see summer go, but above all else, is excited to be the opinions editor for The Commentator this year!
Meet Olive! In her free time, you can find her hanging out with friends or her sister, tanning in some tropical location, or on a skiing adventure with her family. Meet Sophie! Whether she is active on the volleyball court or resting in bed, binge-watching The Office with her dog, she is always ready to have a fun time. Her love of animals led her to be a volunteer at the SPCA and develop her dream of becoming a Veterinarian. Some of her hobbies include painting, babysitting, and photography. However, she enjoys doing these activities with a friend by her side, learning with her along the way. Whenever Sophie is stressed out over schoolwork(which is common), she finds herself listening to music. Meet Colleen! From competing on the lacrosse and hockey field to curling up with a good book or learning a new recipe, she is down for anything! She always loves to be outside, experiencing new things with the people she loves. Speaking of love, Colleen holds a place in her heart for everything concerning TV. Whether it's her favorite Marvel Movies or her favorite show, The Office, her weekends are normally occupied watching one of these things! If not, it's most likely because she’s asleep in her bed, taking one of her common 4-hour naps. She also enjoys shopping, listening to music, and going to the gym. Colleen is so excited for her junior year of high school and even more excited to be in journalism with the role of a staff writer for The Commentator!
When Maggie isn’t doing something band-related, she’s probably at home watching Grey’s Anatomy. Coming from a family of eight, she’s got three siblings and two dogs; one of which she considers to be her best friend. She’s a trumpet player in the Wind Ensemble and the Junior Drum Major for the marching band. If you can’t already tell, music is something very important to her. In her opinion, there's really no such thing as a ‘bad song,’ only different opinions. She loves music from all genres, but is partial to artists such as Taylor Swift, Lord Huron, Ethel Cain, and Bon Iver. Maggie is somewhat of a ‘social butterfly’ and loves getting dinner with her friends. Some of her other favorite pastimes include baking, reading, and making friendship bracelets. She spends hours looking for the most complicated patterns she can find. After taking journalism in middle school, she’s beyond excited to be a staff writer for The Commentator.
When Juliette Lawrence isn't outside and exploring, you might find her playing an intense game of pickleball or spikeball, competing for victory with her friends. While she does all her favorite activities, you'll always find Juliette with an AirPod in her ear, listening to her favorite hits. While lying around and tanning is all good and fun, Juliette loves to move her body every day! Getting a run in and soaking up the sun is her most favorite thing to do. If it's with her best friends, then even better! Some other activities Juliette fills her life with are basketball, track, and writing. Trying to get a hold of Annie? Good luck! She’s most likely held up in the library trying to finish her mountain of schoolwork for the classes and clubs she signed herself up for, or procrastinating all that work via doomscrolling on social media. When she doesn’t have any current responsibilities, she loves to go to the beach to get knocked around in the waves, play football in the sand, and tan with a good book or two. If not at the beach, you can find her at home playing with her three dogs or jumping at any opportunity to hang out with her friends. Overall, Annie loves playing around, but her downtime is even more enjoyable since that is when she gets to write what she loves. She is ecstatic to be a staff writer for The Commentator and is looking forward to this year!

When Rowan is not crouched over in bed at 1 am with a phone flashlight as her source of light for reading, you can find her everywhere in the school. As a section leader in the DSF Show Choir and Co-captain for the Colorguard team, her weeks are filled with rehearsals and Friday night football games. She loves participating in theater outside of Freeman at places such as Character Works and Cadence, and remains a dedicated member of her Girl Scout troop! She loves curling up on her couch with one of her six cats and a hot cup of tea. Rowan adores all types of TV shows and movies; her favorites, however, are Supernatural, Doctor Who, and The X-Files! As a certified procrastinator, you can spot her just about anywhere besides where she's supposed to be. From shopping with friends, to voice lessons, to practicing guitar, to playing Zelda. Overall, Rowan is elated to be a part of this year's staff as a Staff Writer for The Commentator!
