Mr. Pruett is beyond ecstatic to be the faculty sponsor of this fine student publication. However, despite his utter thrill, he has declined to comment on the topic of, well, himself, so there really isn’t anything we know about him that we can put in this bio. We’re sorry you took the time to read this, and, Pruett, if you’re reading this, tell us a fun fact we can put in this now blank space. Please. He also has four monitors.
Described by her friends as “sunshine in a Celsius can,” you will always find Libby with a smile on her face and a blue razz Celsius in hand. A few things you may not know about Libby are that she is a children's gymnastics coach (despite her best skill being a somersault), she goes crazy for a nicely color-coded spreadsheet, and she is an avid Hozier fan. Libby is so excited to be living her Rory Gilmore dreams as Editor-in-Chief of The Commentator this year!
From camping road trips and flying solo cross country to diving around a spikeball net in the front yard, Sarah is always doing something. She’s competitive without fail and never backs down from a challenge. If she’s not on the field playing hockey, she can be found in the gym, out and about, or hunkered down in her room cranking out work. If she had free time, she would be hiking, cooking, sewing, window shopping, and exploring with her friends and family. Sarah is ecstatic to be an Editor-in-Chief for The Commentator this year!
If you happen to see an overly excited high school student shopping at Trader Joes, you have probably spotted Kristen. In her moments of free time outside of school and volleyball, Kristen loves to hang out with friends, listen to music, and shop. You might also find her rewatching her favorite shows, One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls. While Kristen likes to keep busy, she also knows how to spend a concerning amount of time sleeping or scrolling through Tik Tok when she should probably be doing something else. Kristen is so excited to be an Online Editor-in-Chief and Opinions Editor!
If Scotty isn’t in class or at the library doing homework, you might find her at work or sitting at home watching Friends. Scotty loves to spend time outdoors whenever she can and is always cold. Her favorite things in the world are the beach, naps, and playing with her dogs. Scotty loves to read, but she can never seem to find enough time during the school year to do so. Scotty is thrilled to be back writing for The Commentator this year as Online Editor-In-Chief and Opinions Editor!
When Cate is not in class, you can almost guarantee she is knocked out in her bed for what ends up being hours at a time, trying (and failing) to make a dent in a new book series, or brain rotting. Currently, Cate has been busy signing herself up for everything she can get her hands on and then being upset about her lack of free time. If you want to know about a club, chances are she is probably a member. Regardless of what Cate is doing, she always manages to have at least one song playing in the background. Honorable mentions go to Hozier, Noah Kahan, Childish Gambino, Dominic Fike, and Malcolm Todd. Regardless of a lack of free time or sanity, Cate is so excited to be Features Editor of The Commentator this year!
Meet Maya Tluchak! When she isn’t drowning in schoolwork, she is afloat in the ocean. Maya loves to go to the beach any chance she gets. She loves to surf, play soccer, listen to music, and of course, hang out with her friends. When she can’t be at the beach you can find her barricading at all concerts within a 300-mile radius. Maya spends a lot of her time stressed about the commitments she puts on herself, but she gets through it with an iced latte at her side. Although Maya has had four concussions she is still able to write skillfully which makes her a great addition to the staff at The Commentator. Maya is extremely dedicated to her academics and is looking forward to being the Copy Editor for The Commentator this year.
Meet Sadie! If you were to try and find her somewhere, check Starbucks first and then go to the pool and you will most likely find her. You can catch Sadie blasting Taylor Swift in her headphones or singing along to any country song. When Sadie is not stressing about all of the schoolwork that she decided to start at 10:00 pm on a school night, she is watching Gilmore Girls on repeat. Sadie is very excited to be the Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Commentator this year.
If you don't see Julia Connor at the pool, it means summer is officially over. Her favorite season is summer(obviously), but when that's over you can find her at school, doing homework, taking naps, or shopping. After school she loves to drive home with Taylor Swift playing, hopefully, she doesn't have swim practice after school. She loves weekends filled with “Gossip Girl”, hanging out with friends, and no schoolwork. She is excited to be an Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Commentator this year!
If you wake up before the birds sing you may find Katelyn Morrow at the NOVA pool, completing her first swim practice of the day. When she isn’t volunteering or going to club meetings, she is driving around blasting music with her friends. Katelyn loves baking, reading, working out, hiking and swimming (obviously!) When she isn’t waiting for high school swim season to start (when she gets overly spirited), she loves going to football and baseball games to cheer on the Mavs. In her free time she enjoys traveling to Montana and California to see her family. Katelyn is ecstatic to be the Centerspread Editor for The Commentator!

When he isn't cooking up a new never-to-be-finished programming project, you can either find Matthew running or playing golf. He’s a big computer guy, and always is looking to learn something new about how they work. He is also a member of Freeman's quizbowl team, specializing in science and religion. Matthew also sometimes competitively solves various twisty puzzles, like the Rubik's cube. He is excited to return to The Commentator as a News Editor this year!
Connor is just your average guy. If you don't catch him jogging at the local 5k, you'll find him slumped in some sort of blanket while listening to 80’s Vaporwave or Hip-hop music. He enjoys doodling on his school assignments, instead of actually doing them. You’ll wonder why he gets so mad about procrastinating when the answer is right in front of his face. He knows it’s there; He just doesn't want to admit it. He is looking forward to being the News Editor on The Commentator!
There is not a single place in the world Saanvi could go without having the image and thought of her dog in the back of her head. When asked the typical first day question “what is a fun fact about yourself” Saanvi will 99% of the time say she has a dog named Milo and that she runs track. With that being said, when she isn't working on homework or studying for the multiple quizzes and tests she has every week, some of her favorite out of school activities include running, spending time with her dog, family, and friends. A few of her clubs and extracurriculars include Model-UN, working with Green-Teenz RVA, and Red-Cross! Saanvi is very excited to be a staff writer for The Commentator this year!

Ava likes to watch football with her family and while her all time favorite team is the Commanders, she cheers for the Steelers and the Chiefs as well. If Nina isn’t working hard in school or outside in the sun, she is probably out with her friends, driving all over town. If that is not the case she may be out shopping or cuddled up in her bed reading a good book. If you still can’t find her there, she must be playing volleyball, running around the neighborhood, or chatting with her friends. Nina is a very outdoorsy person and adores being active and outside. Her absolute dream is to study abroad as soon as she gets the opportunity and from there she wants to travel the world and meet new people, try new foods, and experience new things. Nina can’t wait to not only learn more about writing, but to be a staff writer for The Commentator this year!
If Maria is not playing volleyball, cooking a fancy meal, hanging out with friends, or shopping, then she is probably at home in her bed watching a rom-com. Maria also enjoys spending time with her family, whether it is going golfing or eating at a new restaurant. Currently, Maria’s favorite restaurant is The Black Pelican, a seafood spot at the beach. Maria is extremely excited for the classes she is taking and the clubs she is participating in. If it comes down to grinding out schoolwork that is due at 11:59 P.M. that night, Emerson Post would much rather be playing basketball. He is motivated to become the version of himself he can be. When he’s not on the court, you can find him at his farm, playing videogames with his friends, or on the phone with his older brother who just moved to New Zealand. In his free time, he likes to do carpentry work with his Dad, learn how to play the piano, and ride roller coasters at Busch Gardens. Emerson also loves to fish with his friends in the summertime, and hopes to get the fishing club going at Freeman High School. Emerson is eager to start his role as a staff writer for The Commentator this school year!

Wondering about Tylerson’s whereabouts? As a captain of the colorguard, you'll usually find him performing during halftime at football games or allowing his entire weekends to be flooded with competitions. With favorite artists like Erykah Badu, The Strokes, Lorde, Peach Pit, and Frank Ocean, he considers his music taste to be surprisingly diverse. Tylerson has a good eye and is often equipped with a digital camera for almost every occasion he's a part of. Usually, he’ll be caught at Belle Isle, watching the rapids or just strolling around with his friends. He’s more than ecstatic to be a Staff Writer for The Commentator this year!
If Maryam isn’t at Chipotle for the millionth time this week, you can catch her trying to stay on top of her mountain of schoolwork (even though she’s usually procrastinating). In her free time between school and track, she loves to hang out with her friends, shop, and rot in her bed and watch The O.C. or Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. You can also find Maryam cooking meals for her family or reading any book she can get her hands on. She is really looking forward to being a staff writer for the Commentator this year!
